Schalke midfielder Ivan Rakitic has attracted the interest of Wolfsburg.
According to a report in Bild, Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are closely monitoring the situation of Ivan Rakitic, currently under contract with Champions League hopefuls Schalke.

Wolfsburg coach Steve McClaren is eager to add another midfielder to his squad in the winter transfer window and the former England manager reportedly sees the 22-year-old as the perfect addition to his squad.

Rakitic started his professional career with Basel and joined Schalke in the summer of 2007. The Croatia international has since made close to 100 official appearances for the Koenigsblauen and his good performances haven't gone unnoticed elsewhere.

The midfielder has previously been linked with clubs such as Inter, Juventus and Sevilla, but Wolfsburg are now believed to be sitting in pole position to lure Rakitic away from his current club.

Rakitic's current contract expires at the end of the season and the playmaker is reluctant to sign a new deal. Therefore, Schalke could decide to cash in on Rakitic in the January transfer window.
