Valencia winger Vicente has been ruled out of action for two weeks after suffering from a thigh strain in training, the club have confirmed.

The former Spanish international has enjoyed a return to the team of late, playing a key role in last weekend’s 2-0 defeat of Deportivo.

He had been expected to retain his place for the match against Malaga last Saturday, which Los Che eventually won 4-3, but he complained of discomfort in his right thigh, and was left out of the squad as a precaution.

Team medics have today confirmed that the injury requires rest for at least the next two weeks.

The 29-year-old is now in his 11th season at the Mestalla, and with his contract due to expire in June, his hopes of playing his way to a new deal have been dashed by this latest setback.
