Since returning from back surgery, Arne Friedrich has impressed Joachim Loew, and should play for Germany in March.
Since the World Cup, there has been widespread speculation over the future of Germany's central defence. The rise of Mats Hummels and Holger Badstuber has put the roles of Per Mertesacker and Arne Friedrich into doubt. However, Germany coach Joachim Loew has given a vote of confidence in Friedrich, who has impressed for Wolfsburg since returning to action following back surgery.

"I am pleased that he's back playing again," Loew told WAZ. "You can see that he gives Wolfsburg a great deal of stability."

The 31-year-old Friedrich has formed an impressive central defensive partnership with Simon Kjaer over the last two weeks, and based on form, Loew expects the former Hertha man to rejoin his squad in March.

"He will either be in the squad against Italy or later, in March [in a Euro 2012 qualifier against Kazakhstan]."
