Tottenham Hotspur have acccepted a reported £6 million bid for striker Robbie Keane from Birmingham City, according to the Press Association.

The Midlands outfit have been linked with Keane for a number of weeks and it appears they have finally come to an arrangement to sign the Irishman.

Blues have agreed a deal with Spurs that will see them pay £4 million up front and then a further £2m depending on various add-ons and clauses in the deal.

Although the deal is still at an early stage, Birmingham have managed to beat off interest from local rivals Wolves, as well as Tyneside pair Newcastle and Sunderland, for the Republic of Ireland international.

It was reported last week they had agreed a £7m deal for the striker and he was due at St Andrew's for a medical.

Keane has been looking for a way out of White Hart Lane after finding his chances at the London club limited and will relish the prospect of returning to the Midlands.

The 30-year-old has played for Tottenham 12 times this season but is yet to score.

The striker's career began at Wolves before a number of transfers saw him play for Coventry City, Tottenham and Liverpool, and the player spent a chunk of last season on loan at Celtic.

Blues manager Alex McLeish has made no secrets of his interest in Keane and had made him his number one transfer target over the January transfer window.

Should the transfer go through then Keane would join former Tottenham team-mate David Bentley at St Andrew's.
