Former Sao Paulo and Bordeaux coach Ricardo Gomes will today be presented as the new trainer of Vasco da Gama.
Former Sao Paulo coach Ricardo Gomes is set to be unveiled as the new Vasco da Gama trainer today, after the struggling Rio club last week fired PC Gusmao from the post.

Lance reports that Gomes met with club officials this morning, and agreed to take control of the Bacalhau with immediate effect. The experienced coach, 46, will be presented at the club later this afternoon, but will not be on the bench for Vasco's Carioca Championship game tomorrow against Volta Redonda.

Former coach Gusmao was removed from his position after a disastrous start to the state championship, in which Vasco lost three games out of three. A further loss puts the team rock-bottom in Rio, and Gomes will have to seek changes to salvage the tournament for his new team.

An accomplished international midfielder who won championships in Brazil, Portugal and France, Gomes started coaching with Paris St. Germain and has gone on to direct several teams, including Monaco, Bordeaux, Flamengo and Fluminense.

The highlights of his managerial career have come in France, where he lifted the French Cup and League Cup with PSG in 1998, and the 2007 League Cup with Bordeaux.
