Sepp Maier believes that Bayern Munich goalkeeper Thomas Kraft could be his second coming.
Germany legend Sepp Maier has given a resounding vote of confidence in Bayern Munich goalkeeper Thomas Kraft following the 22-year-old's strong performances between the posts.

"Even when Thomas was 16, 17 years old, I said: 'He has the best assets,'" he told Abendzeitung. "My hope is that Kraft is the new Sepp."

Accordingly, Maier has advised his former club, Bayern, not to sign Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the summer.

"Thomas has come along very well. That pleases me like mad, he has been calm, and has a very steady, confident way of goalkeeping.

"The money, the millions for the transfer fee, they can save themselves. I believe that if Thomas plays well for the rest of the season, they should not get Neuer. Why should they?"

Maier played for Bayern between 1962 and 1979, and made 95 appearances for West Germany. The 66-year-old is the most decorated goalkeeper in Germany history, and has followed Kraft throughout the youngster's development.
