Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano is looking forward to the Copa del Rey final in April against rivals Real Madrid, which he believes is set to be a wonderful occasion.

The Argentine enforcer and his Blaugrana colleagues progressed 8-0 on aggregate against Almeria last night, while Los Blancos secured a 2-0 home win over Sevilla, to move through to the first Clasico final of the cup in two decades.

Speaking to the media today, Mascherano confessed he is hugely anticipating the match, but added that there are numerous important fixtures between now and April 20.

He stated: “It is always great to qualify for a final, but because it is against Real Madrid this will be magnified. A final against Madrid will be wonderful, but there are many big games to play before this, and we have problems to deal with in other competitons.”

The former Liverpool man is also sure that Atletico Madrid will pose a challenge at the Camp Nou this weekend, saying: “When a great team is hurt, they want to produce a big match against Barcelona.

“Any weekend we could lose. We are not machines, but in the dressing room I see no signs of any relaxation.”
