Bayern Munich will continue to monitor the progress of young attacker Takashi Usami.
Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal already admitted back in December that the Bavarians are closely monitoring the progress of Japanese wonderkid Takashi Usami and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now confirmed that Bayern are still keeping tabs on the Gamba Osaka starlet.

"We really wanted to take Usami with us on our training camp in Qatar in January. Unfortunately, Gamba Osaka were reluctant to allow him to go on trial, but we will continue to monitor his progress," said Rummenigge to Daily Yomiuri.

"Louis van Gaal and sporting director Christian Nerlinger saw some video footage of Usami and were impressed with what they saw. We'd like to see him training with our first team to get a closer look at him before making an offer though.

"There are several promising youngsters around in Japan. A big advantage is that they aren't too expensive yet.

"A lot of Bundesliga sides have set their sights on the Asian market following the success of Shinji Kagawa at Borussia Dortmund. Nobody knew him ahead of the season and he's a big star now."
