Lionel Messi: Barcelona Proud To Beat Real Madrid's Record

With Barcelona's victory over Atletico Madrid, they have overtaken the Spanish record of 15 straight league wins, set by Real Madrid.
Barcelona's victory over Atletico Madrid tonight allowed them to break yet another record, this time winning more straight league games than any other team. The record of 15 was previously set in the 1960/61 season by Real Madrid, led by club legend Alfredo Di Stefano.

Lionel Messi also scored a hat-trick, which allowed him to take the lead in the Pichichi race, overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Argentine magician downplayed the significance of this.

"I am not worried about being top scorer. What worries me is that the team stays on course and maintains the gap for our fans," he insisted.

Messi also spoke of the record beaten by his team, and reminded fans that it is too early to think of the Copa Del Rey final, which will be contested in April between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

"We are proud to beat this record as it had lasted a long time, and was very hard to beat.

"We must now think of La Liga and the Champions League. The Cup final will come."
