Villarreal confirm that midfielder Cani has agreed to a contract extension until 2014.
Villarreal have confirmed that midfielder Cani has signed a contract extension to remain at El Madrigal until the summer of 2014.

The 29-year-old announced prior to the winter break that an agreement had been reached in principle with the club on improved terms, but the Yellow Submarines have finally made the arrangement official today, with his current contract due to expire in June.

The former Zaragoza man is now in his fifth season at Villarreal, and is enjoying additional responsibility as well as an extended run in the starting XI under Juan Carlos Garrido.

Cani’s commitment follows the recent agreement reached with World Cup winner Joan Capdevila to remain at the club until 2013, and veteran midfielder Marcos Senna is also expected to follow suit in the near future.

The player said in December after verbal agreeing terms: “I am happy because I really wanted to continue here. I have always made it clear that this was my choice and that I wanted to stay.”
