Dominik Schmidt & Werder Bremen To Part Ways In The Summer

Dominik Schmidt appears to be on his way out of Werder Bremen.
Dominik Schmidt has been a glimmer of hope in an otherwise dismal Werder Bremen defence this year, but it appears that the young full-back will head elsewhere in the summer.

"Contract negotiations have been put on hold. Both parties have been in talks for a while, but we have so far failed to reach an agreement," the 23-year-old Schmidt was quoted as saying by Kreiszeitung.

Sporting director Klaus Allofs confirmed that both parties have held talks and added that an agreement seems far away.

"We have exchanged thoughts about what we expect, but an agreement is very far away at the moment. Obviously, financial things are the biggest problem here," commented Allofs.

Schmidt made his first team debut for Werder Bremen earlier this season in the Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspur. He has so far made four Bundesliga appearances.
