Valencia to appeal red card shown to defender David Navarro in 1-1 draw with Racing on Monday.
Valencia are investigating the possibility of having David Navarro’s suspension for his red card received in Monday’s draw at Racing reduced.
The central defender was dismissed eight minutes into the second half of the match for words spoken to the official, Alvarez Izquierdo, despite not being on the pitch at the time.
Izquierdo appeared to show the stopper a yellow card, followed by a straight red moments later, which should amount to a two-match suspension.
Marca reports that Los Che are appealing, however, on the grounds that the official allegedly apologised to the dugout, claiming he had intended to issue a second yellow card, which should only incur a one-game penalty.
The club have reported the incident to the Competitions Committee who will investigate the matter. Earlier this season, David Albelda’s red card against Real Madrid, but his ban was upheld due the abusive language shown by the player after his dismissal.
