Anzhi Makhachkala complete signing of Uzbekistan captain Odil Ahmedov from Pakhtakor Tashkent.
Uzbekistan captain Odil Ahmedov has completed a switch to Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala from Pakhtakor Tashkent.
The Uzbek Football Federation confirmed that the 23-year-old had joined up with his new colleagues, but did not disclose the value of the transfer, stating simply that a ‘large sum of money’ had been involved.
The attacking midfielder was part of the Uzbekistan side that finished in 4th place at the 2011 Asian Cup, scoring in the win over hosts Qatar and in the 2-2 draw with China.
A number of European clubs had expressed interest in Ahmedov, with the likes of Dynamo Kiev, Monaco, Malaga and Bolton linked with offers ranging upwards from €8 million.
Anzhi have however clinched the signature of the highly-rated playmaker, with the details of the contract length currently undisclosed.
