Schalke have reportedly joined the race for Saint-Etienne midfielder Blaise Matuidi.
According to a report by talkSPORT, Bundesliga outfit Schalke are closely monitoring the situation of highly rated midfielder Blaise Matuidi, currently under contract with Ligue 1 outfit Saint-Etienne.
Schalke coach Felix Magath is looking for a new holding midfielder to partner Anthony Annan in the centre of the pitch and he supposedly sees the 23-year-old Matuidi as the perfect signing.
Matuidi came through the ranks of the Troyes youth academy and joined his current club in the summer of 2007. The midfielder has since become a key player at ASSE and has made close to 100 official appearances.
The France international has previously been linked with clubs such as Arsenal, Juventus and Fiorentina, but Schalke and Liverpool have now joined the race for Matuidi's signature.
His current contract with Saint-Etienne runs until the summer of 2013 and an offer in the region of €10 million could be needed to lure him away from the French side.
